Overmolding & Insert Molding

What is insert molding and over molding?

Insert molding is a process in which the insert is pre-fixed in an appropriate position in the injection mold and then injected into the plastic, and after the mold is opened, the insert is tightly buried in the plastic by the cooled and cured plastic to obtain products with inserts such as threads and electrodes.

Overmolding is the secondary injection molding, the product  includes the main body (hardplastic) part and the outercover (softplastic) part. the main body of hard part need to be produced firstly during production, and then put the main body of hard part into the overmolding mold to do injection production.

Overmolding & Insert Molding Features

Metal inserts and bushings are commonly used for reinforcing the mechanical properties of the plastic parts or thermoplastic elastomer products that are created through the insert injection molding process. Insert molding provides a number of benefits that will improve processes all the way down to its bottom line. Some of the benefits of insert injection molding, include:

Improve strength & structure

Improve component reliability

Reduces the part weight and size

Reduces labor and assembly costs

Enhance design flexibility

Injection Molding FAQs
  • What injection moulding capabilities do you have?

We are exceptionally capable to provide reliable and efficient injection molding services. Our state of the art machinery and seasoned team makes us a leading player in this field. Our injection molding capabilities are plastic molding, insert molding, over molding, and Two-shot molding.

  • How long does it take to make a plastic injection mould?

It depends on the part design, the more features on the part will make more time building an injection mould, Usually 4 to 8 weeks. We will do our best to finish the mould production within our customer demand.

  • What material should i choose for my plasic part?

Each material has a different specific application, performance, molding properties, mechanical properties, and cost of the resin. If you are not sure which material should be used, pls feel free to ask us.

  • Who owns the mold?

Our customer! Mold belongs to our customer property, it will only be used to produce plastic parts for you, and handled by you.

  • Can the mold be modified after test T1?

Yes, if you are not satisfied with T1 samples and want to change some structures, just provide a newly changed CAD file, then we will check again, and tell you some necessary mold modification cost.

  • Can different parts be made in one mold?

Yes, it is called a family mold. If these parts are the same color, material, it is a good way to reduce the mold cost and make these parts in one mold.
